IAP-ID ANNUAL MEETING 2006 Bangalore

IAP-ID 9th Annual CME 2006, Mumbai

Obituary: Dr. S. J. NAGALOTIMATH

Message from
the President

Let me start by wishing you all a very healthy, peaceful, prosperous & productive 2007. I thank the members & the executive for reposing their faith in me & bestowing the honour of this chair on me. It will be my most sincere endeavor to do justice to this faith & live up to this honour. I am sure the very able support of our dynamic Secretary & Treasurer Dr. Francisco Couto will make this an easy task for me.

This year, like the previous ones, is bringing us a very good set of teaching programmes. The first, the Mid Year Teaching Programme, is on a topic of interest to all practicing pathologists, i.e. “CME on Male genital & urinary system” and is being conducted by old hands at teaching programmes. I am sure the highly skilled Mumbai group will do an excellent job.

The second programme, the Annual CME, on “Lesions of Soft tissues”, covers an area less encountered, but more problematic. This again is in the able hands of Dr. C. Sundaram from Hyderabad, who has been actively involved in the academic activities of the IAP-ID for over 2 decades. I am sure the academic menu will be as enticing as the culinary spread that Hyderabad is famous for.
I have a request to make to all members. This prestigious & highly academic body has only around 400 members. In my circle of colleagues, I have found the cause to be a lack of information about the activities of our association. There are numerous young pathologists with special interest in Surgical pathology, who are waiting to be included, but unaware of the “why” & “how”. I request our older members to encourage their junior colleagues to register as members. Each one recruiting two will give us a good healthy membership. With India poised to take off for newer heights, I am sure all of you feel that our association should also be infused with younger blood.

I hope to meet & interact with many of you at the CMEs. I would wholeheartedly welcome any suggestions for improvement of our activities.
With best wishes,
Dr. K. Uma Chaturvedi

Our thanks are also due to the Guest Speaker Dr.Runjan Chetty, from Canada, and, to Dr. Daksha Prabhat & Dr. Pradeep Vaideeshwar and their team (Slide Seminar on "Pathology of Infections & Infestations") and to Col. S. Satyanarayana and his team (Symposium on "Prostate Pathology") for their wonderful scientific presentations.

We have very interesting academic programmes this year and I am sure members of the IAP-ID will take the opportunity to update their knowledge in various areas of Pathology being covered. The Mid Year Teaching Programme will be held on 24th and 25th February 2007 at the T. N. Medical College and B Y L Nair Hospital, Mumbai, on "Pathology of Renal and Male Genital System" to be organized by Dr. N. K. Bahal and his team. I am sure that the Programme will be a very fruitful and interesting experience for all the participants. Later, in July, we will have the IAP-ID 10th Annual CME on the very current topic of "Tumour and Tumour like lesions of Soft Tissues" to be conducted by Dr. C. Sundaram and her team at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad. In December, we will have the IAP-ID Annual Meeting along with the IAPM National Conference. Besides the Guest Lecture and a Slide Seminar by the invited foreign speaker, the scientific programme includes a Slide Seminar on "Melanotic Lesions of Skin" to be moderated by Dr. Manoj Singh (New Delhi) and a Symposium on "Interstitial Lung Diseases" to be moderated by Dr. Kusum Joshi (Chandigarh). I urge the members to attend these academic programmes of the IAP-ID in large numbers.

On behalf of the IAP-ID I would like to thank M/s Vinay Brothers Diagnostics, New Delhi, for their advertisements in this years publications of the IAP-ID. This was arranged through the good offices of Dr. K. Uma Chaturvedi, New Delhi, for which the IAP-ID expresses its gratitude and thanks.
Before I end, I earnestly appeal to all the members who have not yet paid their membership fees for this year, or are in arrears, to kindly pay their dues immediately.

Message

It is my happy privilege to present to you this issue of the IAP-ID Newsletter (Vol 10, No 1, January 2007). I apologize for the late release of the Newsletter which was delayed due to lack of a sponsor until now.
One of the aims of the Newsletter is to keep members abreast of the various activities of the IAP-Indian Division as well as the IAP. It has been my constant endeavor since inception to innovate and enrich the form and content of the Newsletter so as to make it attractive to the members. Besides being expanded to six pages from the earlier four pages some years ago the Newsletter is being also being produced in full colour and I hope you find the Newsletter a lot more attractive and appealing. For the first time with this issue the Newsletter has been expanded to eight pages with the aim of providing more information about the Divisional and IAP activities to the members. I appeal to all those members involved in various activities of the IAP and the IAP-ID to send their inputs to me so as the relevant material may be incorporated in the Divisional Newsletter so as to make the Newsletter more effective.

For the health and robust growth of the Newsletter it has to be self financing so as not to drain the corpus of the IAP-ID. I earnestly appeal to all members to use your good offices to arrange sponsors and advertisers for the IAP-ID Newsletter. The sponsors / advertisers should send their advertisement material and Demand Drafts in favour of "Secretary & Treasurer, IAP- Indian Division" payable at "Panaji (Goa)" and send it to the following address: Dr.Francisco Couto, Secretary & Treasurer, IAP-Indian Division, 714, La Campala Colony, Behind Ketan Apartments, Panaji - 403001, Goa.
I wish you a fruitful and pleasant reading.
