Vale Roger Cotton

Roger died in March 2006 at the age of 80. He was a leader in his own city of Nottingham, and also nationally in England. He was President of the British Division, first Editor of Histopathology, a journal sponsored by the British Division of the IAP, International President of the IAP and editor of the News Bulletin of the IAP for 12 years. He published a text book on Pathology for medical students, Lecture Notes in Pathology which went to a 4th edition in 1992. During his term as President of the IAP and as Editor of the News Bulletin, he visited many Divisions, particularly newer Divisions and those in underserved countries with a view to fostering understanding and collaboration between Divisions. He was one of the first to be awarded a Gold Medal of the IAP in recognition of his distinguished service to the Academy.

News Bulletin of the French Division of the IAP

Christiane Bailly, Secretary of the Division and Editor of the News Bulletin is doing a marvellous job with this twice yearly publication. It is printed in full colour, and as well as articles about the activities of the Division, it contains the cases presented at the National meetings of the French Division. Christiane has progressively improved the presentation of these cases so that now each case is reported with pictures of the gross pathology and representative views of the sections at low, medium and high magnification which makes the presentation resemble the manner in which a pathologist examines the cases. The Bulletin is presented in the form of a book that can be stored on the bookshelf in the laboratory. This gives a very usable record of the slide seminar and makes it possible for easy reference to what is an up to date account of a selected subject by an expert in the field.
The simplicity and quality of the finished product gives no indication of the expertise and the infinite amount of time that Christiane has to spend on each image, and each account to make sure that the text is well presented and each image is big enough for proper display, in focus and of the correct colour density.
Congratulations Christiane.

(Advertisment)

Interactive eZ Grossing is software that allows rapid generation of typed pathology gross reports without voice transcription, and with very little, if any, typing. A mouse is used to select appropriate descriptions from among alternative choices. The descriptions are automatically copied and can be readily pasted into any windows based pathology information system. The program also helps ensure that appropriate sections are submitted. There are no typographic errors.
Priced at only $200, the program can save thousands. Money back guarantee.
