Vice President, Laboratory Services
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is a $14 billion organization with 90,000 employees and a mission to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. In your role as Vice President of Laboratory Services, you will be responsible for leading the development, implementation and oversight of a provincially integrated system of laboratory services. Your strategic vision and administrative leadership will support and shape the model for laboratory services in Alberta.
As you drive forward and champion a best practices lab strategy, you will oversee a budget of $500 million and lead more than 2,400 physicians, laboratory technologists, lab assistants and administrative professionals. You will build a laboratory services culture that’s collaborative, flexible and responsive to urban, suburban, rural and remote communities, and you will develop and maintain positive working relationships within AHS, with medical schools, with private laboratory service providers and the front lines.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Clinical Support Services, your mission is to make the laboratory capability of AHS a model of quality, access and efficiency for 3.5 million people and a benchmark for the rest of the world.

ANATOMICAL PATHOLOGISTS POSITIONS AVAILABLE AT THE INSTITUTO PORTUGUÊS DE ONCOLOGIA DE COIMBRA FRANCISCO GENTIL, E.P.E. (COIMBRA, PORTUGAL)
The Instituto Português de Oncologia de Coimbra (IPO) is a Comprehensive Cancer Centre, a modern hospital unit that provides high standard of cancer care, early detection and prevention, training and research. The IPO of Coimbra, was founded 46 years ago, has 200 beds, is placed in the highest level of the national net for cancer care and is the reference centre for a health region that covers around 2.5 million inhabitants. To fulfil its mission, the IPO of Coimbra has 910 members’ staff, including 150 doctors, 237 nurses, and other highly qualified health professionals, such as PhDs, basic and clinical research personal and cancer registry experts.
The Anatomical Pathology Service has all the equipment needed to carry out a high quality practice in anatomical pathology.
• The main pathologies are:
- Breast Pathology (there’s a screening programme for breast cancer in the centre region of Portugal);
- Gynaecology Pathology (there’s a screening programme for cervical cancer in the centre region of Portugal and the cytological slides are diagnosed in IPO Coimbra Anatomical Pathology Service)
- Head and Neck pathology, mainly salivary glands and thyroid
• The service has archives since 1962 and a single clinical process.
• The service makes part of some working groups, at both national and international level.
Profile required:
- A Medical Doctor’s Degree
- A qualification as a specialist in Anatomical Pathology
- Experience in Oncological Cytology and Histopathology
- Portuguese Language Skills would be an advantage
Conditions offered:
- A contract, renewable by mutual agreement
- A salary in accordance with the required function.
